Description:  While in the Livingston shops in early April, the 290 was equiped with an APU and its centennial logo painted over. For those who don't know, the auxilary power unit (APU) is a system that will shut down the main engine and start a small diesel that will circulate oil and coolant in the engine. In the 290's case this equipment is located in the old steam generator area.

Description:  One odd thing about this car, on the frame (right side of photo) in clean fresh looking black and white paint is stenciled "NP 255". So, 40 years and two railroads later its original road number is more legible than any other marking on the car? NP did have a Orange Scale Test Car tank car numbered 255) I can only guess that this car was it.
